Korona Kielce overcame a possible stomach bug to send Ruch Chorzów crashing in Saturday’s opener, climbing above Pogoń Szczecin into 12th position, and a step closer to safety. Meanwhile Ruch boss Jacek Zieliński was left to rue missed chances as his side crashed top their second defeat of autumn. The failure to pick up three points combined with Podbeskidzie’s point in Wrocław, now leaves Ruch edging ever closer to the dreaded drop zone.

“The main thing that we have three points” said Korona manager Leszek Ojrzyński. ” We lived through hard times, more and more rivals are in full swing. Meanwhile, several players complained of stomach pains, and after the match immediately ran to the toilets . Most importantly, the game ended happily for us”.

Whilst Ruch did have their chances to earn something from the game, it was the home side who started the brighter; Maciej Korzym missing two golden chances in the opening quarter-of-an-hour before Ruch managed any chance of note. And when the Niebiescy finally did create something, Lithuanian midfielder Mindaugas Panka disappointingly headed wide from just a few yards.

With such a good opportunity wasted, Korona were spurred on, and finally took the lead with just of half-an-hour played. Receiving the ball on the edge the box, Łukasz Jamróz managed to get the better of two Ruch defenders, and his pass found Korzym who was able to comfortably chip past the advancing Pesković.

Whilst Ruch had another great chance to score before the half-time break, with Baszczyński blazing a header over the bar, the home side were to double their lead just ten minutes after the restart. When Tomasz Foszmańczyk was bundled over in the box, by Marcin malinowski the referee had wanted nothing to do with it. But signalled by his goal-line assistant, a penalty was finally awarded ans slotted home by Paweł Golański – sending Pesović comfortably the wrong way.

Whilst Filip Starzyński pulled one back with 25 minutes left on the clock following an excellent through ball by Pavel Sultes, they couldn’t find the all-important equaliser, and now sit just 8 points ahead of Podbeskidzie after 19 games.

“We lost a very important game” said Zieliński post-game. ” We have mixed feelings; too bad it is a lost opportunity as for a long time we were dominating on the pitch and we had some good moments to obtain a favorable outcome”.
